Connecting with Nature

There is something completely magical about the way the world is viewed through a child’s mind and heart.

My kids have always automatically had a respect and fondness for any flowers they see, ‘weeds’ or not. This is so heart warming to me as I remember being told from different people growing up when certain plants were weeds and pests that don’t belong in gardens or yards. I grew with this in mind and instead had to learn against this, to appreciate even these weeds as I got to know them. Their importance and place in the world, helping pollinators for example.

Every plant is fascinating and beautiful in its own right and one of the things I love about nature journaling and studying the world around us as a key focus in our home education journey, is that we connect on a deeper level to our Earth. We see it for more than face value. The more we experience nature, we feel a closeness which is valuable and I feel this is SO important to be nurtured within Children’s hearts so they may grow into adults that do their part in protecting and looking after this absolutely amazing planet we are so lucky enough to belong to and it’s wildlife.

This planet is populated with so many people that are blinded by a system that traps them into a competitive social game that blocks them off from experiencing and understanding the true pleasure of vitamin N or to see animals as beings equal to ourselves. We as humans, generally long for outings, camping trips, holidays. I don’t believe we were ever meant to be stuck within walls, so disconnected from experiencing all the beauty this planet has to offer and unfortunately so many people are blinded by greed and take the treasures around us for granted, instead caring more about digital riches than the natural riches everywhere we look outside in nature. I only hope our world will change into a cleaner, respectful society for our future generations with more solutions to help clean up the mess we have made to our planet.

On our recent family holiday, our souls have been full of love, wonder, gratitude, fascination and so much happiness as we have been enjoying and exploring new natural surroundings and beautiful wildlife. It’s where we feel most alive because being in the wild is truly the most natural thing we can do and it’s opened our minds further to new goals we want to work towards to keep experiencing more of what this world has to offer, more often. I have also seen so much pollution everywhere we have gone. We have been cleaning up trash everywhere on this trip.

We will continue to nurture the curiosity our children have for nature and help them learn to respect and look after our planet with sustainable solutions. To step in where others fail to, to clean up and do our part.

They are learning about our world in a way no textbook would ever teach them and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to guide them on this journey and watch them LOVE LIFE.
